Flywheels are energy storage systems used in power applications. The use a spinning rotor to store energy as rotational kinematic energy.
Goal[edit | edit source]
The project goal is to design an interface in a Simulink® block diagram to real world sensors in a flywheel energy storage system in the IRIC building. The Simulink® subsystem block will read in the sensor information and provide a suitable output signal that is easy for a Simulink® model or system to display or process.
Deliverables[edit | edit source]
The project deliverables include successful validation testing and reviewed and approved component information specification (CIS) documentation of the Simulink® subsystem block. The project team will complete the Simulink® subsystem block implementations for each of the three sensor types: Kaman KD-2306 non-contact displacement sensor, Pololu 36v20 CS current sensor, and Renishaw Resolute rotary absolute encoder.
Value statement[edit | edit source]
Create interfaces and test their functionability using test blocks and later movement of the real world sensors.
Project visioning[edit | edit source]
Create an interface for three of the sensors on the flywheel. After the interfaces are created and tested create component information specification documents.
Project Learning[edit | edit source]
- Learn how to use Matlab Simulink®
·This will be done using tutorials online which can be accessed by the team members.
- Refinement of Knowledge of Simulink®
Practice through creation of subsystems
·Use the provided laptopp to log onto Matlab.
·Use blocks created by Brian Peterson to start creating subsystems.
·Refine knowledge about what the blocks do thorugh experimentation.
·Purpose: to learn more about Matlab Simulink®
-Block Diagrams
These are the team member's block diagrams. They will be inserted as they are completed
